Pow…. Right in the kisser! So mid season 2017 I went up to the store Sunday evening to pick up everything I would need to eat, drink etc… for the next weekend. Best laid plans… right?
I get to my boat late on Friday evening grab my bag to hit the showers provided by our marina reach for my bottle of water AND its warm.
Warm water! Whats the issue?
I probably suffer a bit of OCD. My warm water spawns the need at 130AM to remove the fridge and grab a thermal camera to see if I have odd hot spots in the electronics or in the compressor.
The problem?
A super HOT power supply on the back of the fridge. Being in I.T. I remove the power supply and test all of the connections to find that both 120v and 12v connections are all putting out what they should be. The only thing left is the compressor. Which means replacement time!
Out with the Norcold DE-541 model and in with the new Norcold DE-0041R!

The dimensions of both units are nearly exact. The New Norcold DE-0041 is slightly Deeper. It is about 1/8th inch deeper when you factor in one of the coolant lines at the top of the fridge. I needed to notch out a piece of wood that looks like a spot to mount a ton of electronics that normally are located out of the way. My OCD made me analyze this for far too long. I waited 1 day and spoke to 2 people on the dock who are older and more seasoned than I am. They agreed with my cut… so I made it!
The new fridge slid in without a hitch!
The remainder of my weekend on the boat with the new fridge was SO much less stressful having all of the systems working as they should be!
Sunday I went to the store, picked up next weekends provisions and when I returned … COLD WATER AND COLA!!!
